Lab(s): Advanced Materials Lab 6-250
           : Magnetism Lab 6-247
           : IRC-SES Lab 15-4201
Affiliated Center(s): IRC- Sustainable Energy Systems

Research Interests: My research focuses on the growth and characterization of thin films of nitride- and oxide-based semiconductors, as well as dilute magnetic semiconductors, with particular emphasis on their potential applications in optoelectronics, renewable energy, and spintronics.
To comprehensively evaluate material properties, I employ a suite of structural, morphological, optical, electrical, and magnetic characterization techniques. These include atomic force microscopy (AFM) for surface morphology, x-ray diffraction (XRD) for structural analysis, spectrophotometry for optical properties, Hall effect measurements for carrier transport, SQUID magnetometry and magnetoresistance for probing magnetic behavior, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for chemical and electronic structure.

Biographical Sketch: Dr. Muhammad Baseer Haider was born and raised in Pakistan, where he completed his early education. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physics in 1998 from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. In 1998, he moved to the United States to pursue higher studies, completing his M.S. in Physics in 2000 at Western Illinois University. He then obtained his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Ohio University in 2005 under the supervision of Prof. Arthur R. Smith.
Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Haider conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta, Canada. In September 2009, he joined King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) as an Assistant Professor of Physics. In 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
Dr. Haider continues to contribute to teaching and research in condensed matter physics, with a focus on advancing both theoretical and experimental approaches in the field.
