Brief research interests 
Design and characterization of glasses, ferroelectrics, and dye-sensitized/perovskite solar materials for radiation shielding, dosimetry, biomedical, and energy-harvesting applications.

Research Areas:  

  • Radiation-shielding glasses (lead-free): Borate/tellurite systems; gamma attenuation; dosimetry and medical shielding.
  • Non-crystalline materials: Structure–property relationships in glass networks (BO/NBO chemistry, network modifiers).
  • Surface & interface analysis: XPS of oxidation states; Ar⁺ sputtering effects; depth profiling.
  • Ion irradiation & defect engineering: Ar⁺ irradiation, implantation, and defect evolution; range/ damage modeling.
  • Iodine capture polymers: Polymer sorbents for I₂ and CH₃I remediation; adsorption mechanisms and stability.
  • Solar energy materials: Dye-sensitized and perovskite solar cells; interfaces, efficiency, and durability.
  • Ferroelectrics for energy harvesting: Piezo/pyroelectric ceramics and device-level performance.

Research Interests
Materials for safety and energy: radiation-shielding glasses, iodine-capture polymers, and ferroelectrics; structure–property relationships via XPS and ion irradiation; dye-sensitized and perovskite photovoltaics; application-driven design for medical, nuclear, and environmental needs.

Biographical Sketch 
Dr Abdelkrim Mekki is Associate Professor in the Physics department at KFUPM and is affiliated to the Interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Materials. He studies radiation-shielding glasses, iodine-capture polymers, surface analysis by XPS/ion irradiation and ferroelectric materials for energy harvesting. He mentors students in materials characterization and designs lead-free, application-ready solutions for healthcare, energy, and environmental safety.
