Research Interests

Dr. Farahat main area of research is the upper atmosphere and ionosphere of planets. He analyzes data and develop theoretical models to discover how solar energetic particles and solar storms affect the characteristics and dynamics of the Martian atmosphere. He is also interested in Earth observation research where he uses spacecraft and ground based data to monitor solar irradiance, CO2, NO2, methane, dust activity and air pollution over Earth.  Dr. Farahat is heavily involved in the development of CubeSat and microgravity experiments hardware.

Biographical Sketch

Dr. Ashraf Farahat is an Associate Professor in Physics/Space Physics in the Department of Physics at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). He is a graduate of Alexandria University (BSc and MS), and Florida Institute of Technology (Ph.D.). Dr. Farahat joined the KFUPM faculty, after serving as a postdoctoral member at the Royal Military College of Canada/Canadian Department of National Defense, an Assistant Professor at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvanian, Oakland University, and a lecturer at the University of British Columbia. He was appointed several research fellow positions at the Jet Proportional Laboratory (JPL/NASA), Boston University, and the Southwest Research Institute.
