Welcome to the Department of Physics at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. This is accomplished through cognitive enhancement by education transmitted through academic courses as well as carrying out research at the cutting-edge frontiers of human knowledge. The Physics department offer courses that are solidly based on the American system to meet international quality assurance requirements, which has placed the Department as a world-class regional center in a leading international institution. Our student body includes pure-physics students and double-major students, which reflects the interdisciplinary nature of our program. In addition, our research facilities span various fields of physics including condensed matter physics, lasers, materials research, magnetism and superconductivity, nuclear physics, and nonlinear and computational physics. Over the past five decades, our faculty members have conducted research using in-house facilities as well as collaborative research with national and international centers.

Co-Simulation Approaches for Superconducting Quantum Circuits in Quantum Information Processing

Abstract:
Quantum computing harnesses superposition and entanglement to achieve exponential scaling in computational capability, opening pathways to problems inaccessible to classical processors. Among leading platforms, superconducting qubits based on Josephson junctions stand out for their scalability and fabrication compatibility. Accurate modeling of these systems requires bridging quantum dynamics with classical electromagnetic environments, which single-domain simulations cannot capture alone.

Co-simulation provides this integration, combining circuit-level design tools with quantum mechanical models to enable realistic analysis of complex superconducting circuits. This seminar will discuss co-simulation approaches for superconducting quantum circuits, highlighting their role in scalable processor design, error mitigation strategies, and system-level performance evaluation in quantum information processing.

Biography:
Omar Saleh completed his Bachelor’s degree in Physics at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, Turkey, under the prestigious Albert Einstein German Scholarship Program (2017–2022). He then pursued his Master’s degree in Physics at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), graduating in 2024. His research focused on improving the coherence of superconducting quantum circuits.
