Welcome to the Department of Physics at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. This is accomplished through cognitive enhancement by education transmitted through academic courses as well as carrying out research at the cutting-edge frontiers of human knowledge. The Physics department offer courses that are solidly based on the American system to meet international quality assurance requirements, which has placed the Department as a world-class regional center in a leading international institution. Our student body includes pure-physics students and double-major students, which reflects the interdisciplinary nature of our program. In addition, our research facilities span various fields of physics including condensed matter physics, lasers, materials research, magnetism and superconductivity, nuclear physics, and nonlinear and computational physics. Over the past five decades, our faculty members have conducted research using in-house facilities as well as collaborative research with national and international centers.

Open Quantum Systems in Relativistic Quantum Information

Abstract:

Relativistic quantum information (RQI) investigates the evolution of quantum resources in curved spacetime or under non-inertial motion. It models quantum systems as open systems interacting with bosonic or fermionic fields whose correlation structure is modified by spacetime curvature, acceleration, and horizon-induced thermality (e.g., Unruh, Hawking, and Gibbons–Hawking radiation). Using Unruh–DeWitt-type detectors and master-equation techniques, RQI characterizes how entanglement, coherence, and quantum Fisher information degrade, redistribute, or revive under relativistic effects. The distinct evolution of quantum resources across accessible and inaccessible regions is heavily influenced by fermionic and bosonic statistics. This field ultimately enhances our comprehension of quantum information processing and technologies intended for extreme relativistic environments.

Biography:

Dr. Elghaayda is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IRC for Advanced Quantum Computing, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), working on the theoretical modeling and simulation of superconducting quantum circuits. She earned her Ph.D. in Quantum Information from Hassan II University, Casablanca, with a research focus on Relativistic Quantum Information and quantum batteries. Her academic background also includes M.Sc. in Mathematical Physics from Mohamed V University, Rabat, and a B.Sc. in Condensed Matter Physics from Chouaib Doukkali University, El Jadida. Her current research integrates open quantum system methods, and numerical simulation to advance scalable architectures for superconducting quantum technologies.
