Materials Science and Solar Energy: Impact, Understanding and Scope

Speaker:
Dr. Anurag Roy
UK Research and Innovation Fellow
University of Exeter, UK

Date: Monday, 10 October 2022
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Bldg. 6/Room 125

 Abstract:
Developing renewable, low-cost energy technologies is a critical scientific challenge for the 21st century. Dr Anurag's research focuses on developing new chemical approaches to solar energy materials, including photovoltaic, photocatalytic, solar energy conversion and smart glazing and passive cooling. His research focuses on creating affordable solar energy technologies and allied devices. He provides solutions to energy challenges that can lead us towards a sustainable future. The key subjects within the group include high-efficiency solar energy conversion and storage, concentrating photovoltaics, solar fuels, third-generation solar cells and allied devices. His collaboration with leading and emerging scientists who undertake interdisciplinary research on frontier issues of environment and sustainability, along with both national and international partners. His fundamental studies of new materials and device concepts aim to elucidate design principles and enable technological development. He is currently working on smart glazing development for an energy-saving built environment to control light transmission and infrared reflective coating to reduce heat loss and gain through the built environment's transparent envelope to improve the buildings' energy efficiency. His research also focuses on employing fabricated nanomaterials for renewable energy technologies, catalytic, photocatalytic and electrocatalytic applications.
