Ultrashort laser-stimulated and time-resolved Brillouin scattering in 2D semiconducting crystals

Abstract:
Recently, 2D semiconducting materials, with their distinctive structure and unique physicochemical properties, have drawn much attention due to their potential applications in photonics and optoelectronics. When these 2D crystalline materials are stimulated by ultrashort laser pulses, the time-resolved Brillouin scattering effects become the dominant phenomenon, which can be leveraged as a powerful all-optical and non-destructive technique to study the carrier dynamics and elastic properties of these fragile materials. In this talk, the physical principle, system design, and application of laser-stimulated and time-resolved impulsive Brillouin scattering in 2D crystals will be presented. Latest experimental and theoretical results on the carrier dynamics and acoustic speed in GeS and GaS crystals will also be discussed and related to the optical and optoelectronic properties of these crystals.

Dr. Watheq Al-Basheer is a faculty of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals.
