Abstract:
A ferroelectric is a material which retains spontaneous polarization that stays after poling source is removed. Ferroelectricity comes from a non-centrosymmetric structure and hence perovskite are excellent characters to demonstrate ferroelectricity. Amongst the strongest of this class are Titanates. Ba and Pb titanates are well known materials. But international bans on Pb require a special drive to attain Pb-free materials with equivalent properties. In this study, there is an attempt to reveal how a ferroelectric Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 can be modified to reveal excellent magnetoelectrically coupled properties and energy storage properties
Biography:
Somaditya Sen is an Associate Professor in the Physics Department of Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore). IIT Indore is one of the first 15 institutes of India and with the first 350 globally according to QS and THE world ranking. He works on chemically modified simple and complex oxides to explore different functionalities leading to multiple applications in the domains of semiconducting and ferroelectric/multiferroic/magnetic oxide materials. He is truly multidisciplinary in his research. He has more than 120 important journal publications, 1 book and 4 book chapters apart from nearly 50 conference proceedings. He has graduated 15 doctoral theses, 12 masters' theses and 6 undergrad project theses. His students are spread all over the world in prime universities like UCLA, Cornell Univ, Cambridge University, UCSD, IIT Chicago, NTU Taiwan, NTUST Taiwan etc. He is the founder member of the dept of Astronomy at IIT Indore, which has now become a model department of all academic institutes of India. He played a critical role in promoting research and development of IIT Indore, during the initial years of the institute. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors, IITI, and has been Dean Planning for a considerable length of time. External to IITI, he has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT), Taipei, Taiwan and presently serving as a consulting faculty in a project in King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.
All faculty, researchers and students are invited to attend.
